About the SDG-SSE Project

SDG-SSE.org is a global platform connecting individuals and organisations who are interested in issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the social and solidarity economy (SSE).

The Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs, is a set of 17 goals and 169 targets towards a global sustainable development agenda by 2030. Spearheaded by the United Nations, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted by world leaders in the UN Summit in September 2015.

The social and solidarity economy (SSE) refers to “the production of goods and services by a broad range of organisations and enterprises that have explicit social and often environmental objectives, and are guided by principles and practices of cooperation, solidarity, ethics and democratic self-management. The field of SSE includes co-operatives and other forms of social enterprise, self-help groups, community-based organisations, associations of informal economy workers, service-provisioning NGOs, solidarity finance schemes, amongst others.” (UNTFSSE, 2014)

The SDG-SSE Project seeks to link SDG and SSE together, viewing SSE as a practical pathway towards achieving SDGs. Anyone can register into the website to start posting events, articles, projects, announcements and resources connected to the two topics. With the use of hashtags, the website provides multiple streams of content for easy consumption by the users, mainly through issue tags (e.g. #SDGs, #SSE, #SDG1, etc) and country tags (#Malaysia, #TimorLeste, etc).
